The Daughters of Sarah Ministry (DoS) is a non-profit company founded on the 4th of March in 2011 in Durban, South Africa. Initially, the purpose was to meet as married women and support each other through the journey of married life. South Africa is faced with gender-based violence and femicide. Many women have died silently with deep emotional wounds and related fatal diseases.

In 2019 the Ministry introduced the wing of the Widows as one of the members lost a husband. The Lord Almighty blessed the Ministry with a leader for WISLO (Widows and Single Ladies Organization), Mrs Tandie Makhanya, who joined DoS and led it. DoS now has 20 widows. Since then DoS was joined by Separated, Divorced and later on the Never Married women who came for spiritual counseling and support. DoS also supports WOVA (Women of Valour), a ministry that supports single women. It is led by Ps Mpumie Msimang. DoS not only offers spiritual counseling but professional counseling as there are therapists who joined the Ministry as it grew. DoS now supports approximately 134 South African members and 263 members in Uganda.

DoS is currently supporting the women through empowerment and skills transfer to sustain their households. 2 Districts in Uganda (Bujuuko and Gomba) have recently benefited from such empowerment and skills development projects as will be detailed below.

Project Uganda

The DoS organisation launched its Woman Empowerment and Skills Development Project in Uganda on the 16th of October 2023. The Organisation also extended its membership to the men who support its vision of woman empowerment, who stand against gender-based violence, femicide and the social injustice faced by women.

The project launched in Bujuuko and Gomba. In each region the women were taught to sew and bake profesionally, offered business and marketing lessons, and supplied with the following:

  • 6 industrial sewing machines
  • Start-up material
  • 1 baking oven
  • Cosmetics and clothing
